Meanwhile, Somewhere in Wild Tasmania...
Umm, errr - I really should have a proper website by now (I am working on one)...
The truth is, I enjoy the experience of meeting so many lovely people at my Salamanca Market stall in nipaluna/Hobart (who visit from all around the world). It's enough.
Speaking of which:
MY NEXT TRADING DAY WILL BE: SATURDAY, 30th of NOVEMBER 2024Ā (8:30am to 3pm) @ site 89
(opposite The Supreme Court @ the Davey St end of the market / beneath the brooding gaze of kunanyi/Mt Wellington) š.
...anyways, in the meantime, here are some words arranged on a screen for anyone that might be interested.
Thanks for stopping by,
Anthony.
Tell Me More
Drawn Under a Mountain is a small design and clothing business (established by me, Anthony Edmunds) striving to do some creative good in the world.
I do this (independent from the mainstream hum) via sustainable, ethical practices and by supporting charities and organisations that share my environmental, humanitarian and animal justice values. I refuse to deal with clothing manufacturers that profit from modern-day slavery (unfortunately, here in Australia they are ubiquitous).
From my home-based studio in West Hobart (and at SALAMANCA MARKET) I design, print and sell limited-run, GOTS certified organic & FAIR WEAR audited t-shirts & totes (sourced from my world leading ethical supplier, Stanley/Stella).
My inspirations are broad (having globe-trotted this planet more than I should haveā¦) but, the quirks of lutruwita/Tasmania, environmental issues, First Nations recognition and the human condition always rise to the fore. A deep love of Japanese visual culture occasionally gets my synapses firing too (a love formed over many years and many visits) ć.
Hmmm, so it sounds like I've been drawn to (and have drawn inspiration from beneath) two different mountains: kunanyi/Mt Wellington in lutruwita/Tasmania & Fujiyama in Japan - this is all beginning to make some sense to me now š¤ā¦

FUN FACT
Despite multiple increases to the cost of producing my stock, my prices remain the same as they were in 2021 (BTW I've increased my charitable contributions too).

Sustainability & Ethics
Everything in the 'Drawn Under a Mountain world' has been designed and crafted by me (in line with my heartfelt intention to harm less). Consequently, Iām solely responsible for every aspect of my business (and my businessās footprint). I take this seriously, and am continually striving to do things better.
Here are ten random examples of how I implement sustainable and ethical practices into Drawn Under a Mountain:
-
The exclusive use of Stanley/Stella garments that are certified organic, Fair Wear audited and PETA Approved
-
Printing with environmentally friendly VEGANOK & OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certified materials
-
Waste reduction, which includes: limited and on-demand-only production processes - complimented by fastidious composting and recycling š
-
Orders are packed into compostable mailers from The Better Packaging Co and I ship exclusively with Australia Post, who have commited to Net Zero by 2050 (better late than never)... Australia Post's environmental initiatives are also aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals
-
I receive my Stanley/Stella stock via carbon neutral delivery with Trans Direct
-
Being powered by a non-carbon-based energy supply in theĀ net carbon negative state of Tasmania
-
Managing financials withĀ Bank AustraliaĀ (a clean money bank that doesnāt invest in: fossil-fuel, live animal export, armaments, gambling or tobacco)
-
By choosing not to deal with companies that profit from modern-day slaveryĀ (which is rampant in the fashion and textiles industry)
-
I'm proud to operate Drawn Under a Mountain as aĀ profit for purposeĀ driven business (every month I give a portion of my profits to Australia's leading animal protection organisation, Animals Australia, and I'm a Dominion Movement Action Team member with FTP (Farm Transparency Project). Yes, I walk the talk and am vegan š°ā
-
I offset my carbon footprintĀ viaĀ EcologiĀ (who plant trees & fund the worldās best climate crisis solutions)
Supply Chain
Responsible, accountable (and short) supply chains are fundamental to Drawn Under a Mountain. To help achieve this (having done way too much fashion industry rabbit-holing), Iām proud to be sourcing my t-shirts and totes exclusively (and simply) from my Stanley/Stella dealer in Byron Bay.
āSince its launch in 2012, Stanley/Stella has focused onĀ simplicity, highlighting the essence of the garment. The driving force of its founder Jean Chabert: toĀ break codes, to change the perception of the textile industry. To offer products thatĀ respectĀ people, the environment and customers. To produce moreĀ authenticĀ and moreĀ responsibleĀ clothes that you are proud to wear and sell. Pieces that initiate change in the textile industry, made in a more humane, ethical and ecological way.ā
